RITE OF ELECTION FOR CANDIDATES FOR CONFIRMATION 2011

PRAYER OF THE ASSEMBLY

Lord God,
you created the human race
and are the author of its renewal.
Bless all your adopted children
and add these chosen ones
to the harvest of your new covenant.
As true children of the promise,
may they rejoice in eternal life,
won, not by the power of nature,
but through the mystery of your grace.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.  Amen

PRIESTLY VOCATION DISCERNMENT

If you are wondering about God’s will for your life, a time of prayer and fellowship is available on 26 June.
Please contact Fr. Binh Le on 9926 5733 email:director@melbournepriest.com

LOSS OF TWO PARISH PRIESTS

Fr. John Maher O.M.I., 62 years old (Sunshine) and Fr. Tony Hally, 73 years old (Woodend) have recently returned to the Father.
Fr. John was also a fine lecturer in theology and Fr. Tony, as well as parish duties, was for many years on a diocesan committee involved with Catholic Schools.
Due to the lack of priests, their vacant positions have not been filled.

EPISCOPAL ORDINATION OF BISHOP-ELECT VINCENT LONG VAN NGUYEN

This will take place at St Patrick’s Cathedral, Melbourne on Thursday 23 June at 7.30pm.  All are most welcome to attend the Mass.  Father Vincent was born in Gia-Kiem, Vietnam on 3 December 1961 and in 1980 escaped in a boat, coming to Australia eventually.  He studied in Melbourne, served as parish priest of Springvale for seven years and has been Provincial and Assistant General of the Conventual Franciscan Order in Rome. Please keep Fr. Vincent in your prayers.

PENTECOST LETTER

Archbishop Denis Hart’s 2011 Pentecost Letter entitled ‘Planted and Built Up in Jesus Christ—Firm in the Faith’ (Col 2:7) is available this weekend.  The letter has been prepared with input from young people from our Catholic schools and youth apostolates.  Please take a copy home with you (at  Welcoming Desk).

HOSPITALITY IN ACTION

As part of their preparation for Reconciliation and First Communion, children and parents attend two home group meetings.   A considerable number of families participating in the program have offered to host and lead these meetings but we are still a few homes short.  If you are willing to have five children,  plus  1  parent each, at your home for an hour on one evening between Monday 20 and Thursday 23 June it would be a great help, and a great sign of care and hospitality towards the families who visit you.  If you are able to help, please call the Parish Office 9744 1060 or e-mail richard.hallett@cam.org.au before midday next Tuesday 14 June.

CAN YOU HELP?

The Salvation Army, Sunbury has asked all churches in Sunbury to place the following notice in our newsletters:
‘We are currently working with two people (a couple) in Sunbury who are homeless.  We have been given access to a caravan, however we need to find somewhere to put the caravan that would have access to power and an outside toilet.  This request would be unsuitable to a family with children’.  Please contact Lt. Cheryl Pryor on 9744 2095.

PARISH GARDENING

All parishioners interested in  sharing  their  time and gardening talents are invited to a meeting to be held on THURSDAY 16 JUNE at 7.30pm in the Parish Centre to arrange garden maintenance around the Presbytery and St Anne’s Church, and to discuss also the establishment of a Neighbourhood/Community Vegie garden in the donkey’s paddock.  Everyone welcome.

BEST WISHES TO MATTHEW BALDWIN

Matt, the eldest child of John and Rosalie, was educated at St. Anne’s School and Salesian College. In his VCE years, he was involved in the music ministry at 5.30pm Mass. Next Sunday, there will be an opportunity to farewell Matt at morning tea after 8.30am Mass.

THANKSGIVING MASS

WEEK OF PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY 5-12 JUNE

During the coming week Christians everywhere are invited to pause and reflect on their relation to the mother Church of Jerusalem so as to look afresh at our own situations.  The earthly community of Jerusalem is a pre-figuration of the heavenly Jerusalem where all peoples will be gathered around the throne of the Lamb in eternal praise and adoration of God.  All parishioners are invited to join our sisters and  brothers from other Sunbury Christian Churches in celebrating the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity by attending a special ecumenical service to be held at St Anne’s Church on WED 8 JUNE commencing at 7.30pm.  A plate of supper to share after the service would be much appreciated.

JOURNEY TOGETHER COMBINED MEETING

ON TUESDAY 7TH JUNE AT 7.30PM IN THE PARISH CENTRE THERE WILL BE A SESSION FOR ALL GROUPS PARTICIPATING IN THE PROGRAM AS WELL AS FOR ANY INTERESTED PARISHIONERS WHO MAY LIKE TO TRY IT OUT AND PERHAPS JOIN A GROUP NEARER THEIR HOME

“JOURNEY TOGETHER” is a series of five meetings. The gatherings in homes follow the method of ‘see, judge, act’ – looking at our world, judging life in the light of the Bible and resolving some action. In the recent exhortation ‘Verbum Domini’ (Latin for ‘Word of the Lord’) Pope Benedict and 250 bishops gathered in a synod express their hope for ‘a new season of greater love for the sacred Scripture on the part of every member of the People of God’ (par. 72).

Anyone wishing to join a group is invited to contact the Parish Office.

TODAY IS RECONCILIATION SUNDAY

WHAT DOES ABORIGINAL SPIRITUALITY HAVE TO OFFER AUSTRALIA
Time, or rather timelessness, is another component of Aboriginal life and spirituality.  Time to the European mind is a commodity to be used.  For the Aboriginal  person, time  is  the present – the given moment is what is important.  Aboriginal people are comfortable waiting for a better moment, changing plans, going with what is happening. The greatest gift Aboriginal people have to offer is the gift of Dadirri, that is, the gift described as ‘inner deep listening and quiet still awareness’.  There is  a patience  in  the listening, patience for the right time.  In the listening comes strength and renewal.  Our experience of wind is varied, from the parching winds of inland Australia  to  the  cool winds that signal a break in the weather.  The Aboriginal people are attuned to these changes, always patiently waiting and watching for signs of change.  We use wind as a symbol of the movement  of the Holy Spirit in our lives (Job 7,7; Mt 11,7).  The formation of stars we call the Southern Cross is significant in the Southern Hemisphere.  As it journeys across the night sky it is a symbol of our life journey through the Paschal Mystery of birth, death and resurrection (Dan 12,3; Mt 2,2)…..Parish Social Justice Group

CELEBRATING SUNBURY’S 175TH YEAR AND SUNBURY FIRE BRIGADE’S 100TH

A combined Christian celebration will be held today at 5.00pm to 6.10pm in St Andrew’s Church on the Village Green.  Kiwanis are providing a sausage sizzle.  Each church is asking 10 people to bring a dessert.  As the Mayor and several Members of Parliament will be attending, it would be great to see a good attendance from our parish.
