WELCOME TO OUR NEW CATHOLICS
This Easter we welcome Alison Fisher, Eni Saban, Jason & Sue Wight into our Catholic community. After personal reflection and regular weekly accompaniment by some of our parishioners in the Catechumenate apostolate, they have decided to join us. Please make them feel welcome in the months ahead. Our thanks to the Catechumenate team which has met most Monday evenings since last September…..Fr Kevin
COMING TO RECEIVE HOLY COMMUNION
In 2008, the Australian Bishops directed that we should bow slightly one back from the minister of communion. Genuflecting before receiving was not permitted as it is a safety hazard especially for people behind unsteady on their feet, who can be easily tripped up and fall causing a broken hip. We have just prayed aloud: ‘Lord, I am not worthy to receive you……..’ Our parish is committed to having a safe environment for the benefit of all and to satisfy the parish’s legal responsibilities.

NEW FEDERAL FUNDED PROJECTS IN VICTORIA CATHOLIC PRIMARY SCHOOLS
The approved projects are:
- 150 libraries
- 207 classroom projects
- 259 multi-purpose areas
- 4 gymnasiums
- 7 performing arts centres
As both our parish schools already have libraries, the new projects are classrooms (11) and multi-purpose areas (2). The new classrooms have a massive amount of data cabling so that our students in 21st century will have a rich ICT environment.
Projects in Catholic schools under construction total 76% compared to the national rate of 50%.
GOOD FRIDAY HOLY LAND COLLECTION
Last year Australian Catholics donated $1.1 million. 71% of this collection was spent on the poor Christians in the Holy Land: 47% on charitable programs for the poor, 19% on education programs, 5% on pastoral programs. 29% of the collection was spent on restoring the Holy Places, e.g. Bethany, Bethlehem, Jerusalem, Nazareth etc. Many Christians are living in intolerable conditions with scarce housing and constant threat of violence and hatred. The Franciscans have supported Christians in the Holy Land since the time of St Francis, in spite of persecution and martyrdom.
