’that all the people of O.L.M.C. Parish are aware of the value of every person’
– we are planning to conduct a parish census during October. Shortly we will be inviting any parishioners who may have some time to help with the census to register at the parish office.
A parishioner is volunteering her expertise, special equipment and time to keep clean the altar, ambo, chair, sanctuary platform, font and marble floor. Hence, cleaners are asked not to clean these areas.
Recently the parish ran a campaign to encourage parishioners to become involved in the work of the community and also to update our Ministry teams. The information has been entered into the parish database and some ministries have had a series of formation meetings. Other ministries will be in need of a coordinator and further organisation. If you missed the campaign and wish to continue with your ministry, please fill out the form at the Welcome Desk or contact the Parish Office.
Building project is proceeding well, on time and on budget ($6 mil). This will make a great improvement for students in 2010. There is no government grant for this project which will be funded by school fees over the next ten years.
The Extra-ordinary Ministers of Communion (Ordinary Ministers of Communion are the ordained Priesthood, Extra-ordinary means non-ordained) have had some formation sessions. The roster is being compiled but, in the meantime, could any Ministers of Communion please spontaneously come up to the altar after the Sign of Peace. Eight ministers are required at St Anne’s Masses and three at O.L.M.C. to assist.
As was discussed in the formation meetings the sacred vessels are left to be washed after Mass by one of the Ministers of Communion.
Wed 19 August at 7.30pm in the Parish Centre.
Anyone interested in joining or finding out more about this group is most welcome.

CENTENARY OF THE ENTRY OF BLESSED MARY MACKILLOP INTO ETERNAL LIFE—8 AUGUST
Australia as nation and a Church rejoices this weekend as we remember Mary MacKillop leaving this earth at Sydney for eternal life.
We thank God for her heroic witness during her sixty-seven years of earthly life.
The oldest of a family of ten Mary bore the brunt of an impoverished, unstable home as her father did not work and did not provide for his family. Mary went to work early as a governess, a shop assistant and teacher. Throughout all her unhappy childhood, her mother Flora said ‘God will provide’. Mary always had a keen sense of God’s watchful care and her life was full of trust in God’s providence.
Today we rejoice that this woman of God who said:
‘never see a need without trying to do something about it’,
has influenced numberless men and women, especially the Sisters of St Joseph to follow the gospel call of compassion.
As a parish, we rejoice that the Sisters of St Joseph have been present among us for ninety-three years. We pray for our present sisters and those working the world from Peru to Ireland.
May Blessed Mary place our needs before
Christ in heaven and increase our trust in
God’s providence to us.
‘DO NOT NEGLECT TO SHOW HOSPITALITY TO STRANGERS’
Hebrews 13:2
The note of welcome permeates the New Testament. The two on the road to Emmaus would never had met the risen Christ if they had not welcomed him as a stranger into their home.
Christ had experienced rejection.
‘He came to what was his own, and his own people did not accept him’ (John 1:11)
Over the next three weeks, let us show hospitality to our many visitors
This requires action before 15 August. Church leaders, religious and those following the NT intervention are writing to Prof. Anaya, UN Rep on Human Rights, for his support for the reinstatement of the Racial Discrimination Act.
