STEWARDSHIP……A WAY OF LIFE
CATHOLIC STEWARDSHIP FROM SUNDAYS READINGS
This Palm Sunday represents one of the great liturgical dichotomies. We begin the liturgy with a procession of celebration, and we continue to the reading of the Passion, which reaches its zenith with the Lord calling out, “ ‘Father, into your hands I commend my spirit’; and when he had said this he breathed his last.” It is as if we move from joy and celebration to utter defeat and emptiness. However, that is the essence of our entire Lenten journey, and our beginning of Holy Week, which is today. One of the important aspects of our sense of stewardship is gaining an understanding of our Faith, some of the details relating to what we do and why we do it.
The steward understands that she/he travels with the Lord every step of the way, from the highs to the lows, from triumph to evident disaster. Like Peter, nonetheless, we may become reluctant. What are we really following and what are we really believing and practicing? We may proclaim Jesus as our Lord and Savior. Throughout Lent we have been striving to deepen our relationship with Him. Nevertheless, when it comes right down to it, we may resist His invitation to us because it can mean pain, sacrifice, and suffering. That is why we must experience Lent. That is why we must experience His Passion. And that is why next week on Easter Sunday we will arise with the Lord in triumph, joy, and celebration. Truly, “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.”

SPECIAL COLLECTION NEXT WEEK GOOD FRIDAY– HOLY PLACES
The annual collection for the support of the church in the Holy Land takes place on Good Friday. This collection promotes the missionary work of the Church in the Holy Land by providing welfare assistance to local Christians in areas such as health, education, employment and housing. Parishes, schools, orphanages and medical centres also rely on assistance from this collection.
PRAYER SERVICE FOR VICTIMS OF ABUSE
Last Tuesday, our Prayer Service for victims of abuse received many compliments and will be held again later in the year. Thanks to the planning and catering teams.

Thanks to Jenny and Peter Ryan who are caring for our donkey who will lead our Procession of Palms today.
Please do not feed the donkey; many do and he is now over-weight.
EMMAUS CHARISMATIC PRAYER GROUP
The Emmaus Charismatic Prayer Group will not be meeting on Holy Thursday March 28th. Meetings will resume on Thursday April 4th at 10.15am at St. Anne’s church.
YOUTH SUNDAY
Congratulations to Garnet Jacob and Maria Mallia for the beautiful display for the Stations of the Cross for the Youth of our Parish last Friday night. Please keep our youth in your prayers, especially today being Youth Sunday, that they will continue to grow in faith and be supported by our Parish Community.
ST PATICK’S DAY DANCE
Last Saturday about 150 people gathered for a great night of dancing and laughing. The band rocked! And most everyone who attended had really nice comments to make. Thank you to Cathie and Robert Lio for their hard work getting the night organized. Also to Graeme Edments, Gary and Lyn Plummer, Paul & Carol Zarb for setting up and packing away. The sense of community was great and we are hoping to do more of these events in the future and develop community feeling.

DR SISTER MARY GLOWREY
(1887-1957) the first nun-doctor missionary: Mary grew up in the Mallee and graduated in medicine in Melbourne in 1910. After working at St Vincent’s and the Eye and Ear Hospitals, she went to India in 1920 and spent the rest of her life there, founding one of the largest non-government health care providers in the world. The process for her Beatification will commence in Melbourne next Tuesday.
VOCATION NEWS
Eight men entered the Seminary to study for the priesthood for the Archdiocese of Melbourne. Please remember to pray for Nathan Rawlins, Nirmal Nanayakkara, Christopher Raj, Vincent Taouk, Trac Nguyen, Ravi Muvvala, Anil Mascarenhas and Geroge Feliciouz. Also, Alexander Chow will commence at Beda College in Rome to study for the Archdiocese of Melbourne.

PARISH RETREAT– SPIRITUALITY IN OUR TIMES
Our Parish Retreat will be held in Easter time, Monday 22 April to Satruday 27 April. The retreat has three modules– renewal of our mind, renewal of our heart and renewal of our action. There are three elements in each session: some input, some group sharing ans some prayer. It is time for a renewal as we live in changing times and we need a boost. The sessions will be held in the morning and evening in the Parish Centre. The retreat team will comprise a laywoman, a priest and a religious sister– mixed vocations. Please mark your diaries.
The last retreat was very well received by 150 people who attended.
PALMS FOR PALM SUNDAY

OPEN DAY FOR OUR PARISH SCHOOLS
Open Day will be held on Wednesday 20 March at both St Anne’s Primary School at Stewarts Lane, Sunbury and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Primary School at Macedon St, Sunbury. There will be two sessions, 9.30am and 7pm. Prep 2014 Information sessions were very well attended on Wednesday. Please do not leave enrolment to the last minute to avoid disappointment.

OUR PRAYERFUL SYMPATHY
We offer to the extended family of Joan Crameri who entered eternal life last Wednesday aged 92 years. After six years war service in WRAAF, Joan became a TPI in later life. After being an active parishioner in Kew, Joan moved to Sunbury in 2000 to live with her cousin, Frank Hogan. Later, Joan was cared for in the Lions Hostel. Her funeral Mass is on Tuesday at 11.00am.
We also offer to Bill O’Mahoney and his daughter, Lyn Mandouit, as their son and brother, Frank O’Mahoney, entered eternal life on Thursday after a long illness. Frank has been living with his father in Sunbury for five years. His Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday 20 March at 1pm, followed by burial at Sunbury.

Recently, both of our Primary Schools had their annual audits of finance by DeLoitte’s, and both schools were given a clean bill of health.

AUSTRALIAN CATHOLIC RELIGIOUS REACH OUT TO WOMEN IN SLAVERY
Religious sisters and brothers have been campaigning against human trafficing in Australia. As the former Attorney-General, Nicola Roxon said, “Australia is not immune from this insideous form of modern day slavery.”
The Catholic Religious have produced programs to be broadcast on ethnic radio stations in Thai, Vietnamese and Mandarin.
