- It is most desirable that the faithful, just as the priest himself is bound to do, receive the Lord’s Body from hosts consecrated at the same Mass and that, in the instances when it is permitted, they partake of the chalice (cf no. 283),
- so that even by means of the signs Communion will stand out more clearly as a participation in the sacrifice actually being celebrated. (No.85)
- Reverencing the Blessed Sacrament, all ministers genuflect or bow when they approach the Altar and when they depart from the Sanctuary but not during the celebration of Mass itself. (No. 274)
EARLY MASS DEPARTURES
Our Mass has four essential parts: Introductory Rites, Liturgy of the Word, Liturgy of the Eucharist and Concluding Rites of Blessing and Dismissal. With First Communion Masses, it would be respectful and excellent role modelling to our children if all parishioners were to remain to the end of all Masses. The only time Mass should be left early is in the event of an emergency, otherwise the final blessing and dismissal are missed– these to are important parts of the Mass.

OUR EASTER SYMBOL
Our Easter Symbol will be a replica of the stone which at the Resurrection of Jesus was rolled away from the tomb.
“On the first day of the week, the women went to the tomb. They had been saying to one another. “Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?” When they looked up they saw the stone, which was very large had already been rolled back” (Mark 16:2-4).
Hence the stone by itself reminds us of the empty tomb, the sign Jesus has risen. Thanks to Jo Wiegerink for our new symbol.
WORKING BEE
A working bee will be held at St Anne’s church on Saturday 6 April from 9am to 12pm.
Please bring your tools.
All welcome.
CONGRATULATIONS
LOOKING FOR LEADERS
Are you passionate about what Jesus taught us? Would you like to share what Jesus taught us with the children of our parish? If you answered yes to both of these questions and can spare about an hour every 4-6 weeks, we would love you to be part of our Children’s Liturgy Team. We are in desperate need of more leaders to take the pressure off our current leaders. The more leaders we have, the less frequently members are rostered! Contact the Parish Office on 9744 1060 if you can help.
LITURGY PLANNING TEAM
The team met on time last Wednesday evening and continued for 135 minutes reviewing Advent and Christmas liturgies and planning for Lent.
We found the Advent liturgies were not well attended and more advertising is needed. The Christmas Day Masses were very well received, with over 3,000 at our four Masses with very good participation in prayer and in song. More welcomers are needed next Christmas at 10pm and 10.30am Masses. The organisation was generally smooth. We discovered the audio-visual technician lay 3 kilometres of cabling at Rupertswood Stadium!
Our chosen theme for Lent 2013 is “Jesus is the truth who will set us free”.
Further information next Sunday. The team members are very generous with their time for the sake of your community.

HELP NEEDED
Help needed at 8.30am Mass for setting up for Mass. Training will be provided to any interested parties. We appeal to the regular 8.30am Mass goers to help as the majority of the Mass set up has fallen to one family, which is unfair. The roster is set for one month per year. If you can help, please contact the Parish Office on 9744 1060.
Thank you to the 3 parishioners who have volunteered to help this week. If there are 2 more, that would be perfect!

COMMUNION UNDER BOTH KINDS
General Instruction of Roman Missal (2011) No. 281) Holy Communion has a fuller form as a sign when it is distributed under both kinds. For in this form the sign of the Eucharistic banquet is more clearly evident and clear expression is given to the divine will by which the new and eternal Covenant is ratified in the Blood of the Lord, as also the relationship between the Eucharistic banquet and the eschatological banquet in the Father’s Kingdom.
PRAYERFUL SILENCE AFTER READINGS
Silence is promoted in official documents on celebrating Mass. After we respond “Thanks be to God”, “a few moments of silence may be observed so that all may meditate on what they have heard.” General Introduction from Congregation of Divine Worship No. 128,130. We shall begin these periods of silence (30 seconds) in October. The Parish Liturgy Team planned this at it’s last meeting.
In other words wait 30 seconds before the Psalm, before the Alleluia verse, and before the first collection.

PARISH ASSEMBLY 2012
The Annual Parish Assembly was held in the morning of 1 September. The assembly was a very happy, peaceful gathering with a very positive atmosphere. The minutes of the assembly are at the Welcome Desk. Developments from last years assembly were noted, eg. re-introduction of Children’s Liturgy of the Word, further members of St Vincent de Paul Society, better audio visual at OLMC Church, an evangelising letter to 3550 Catholic households four times per year, the international day.
Several groups including our two schools gave reports on the past twelve months.
The schools highlighted religious education initiatives especially in social justice plus the developments in teaching and learning, including use of technology. The Legion of Mary gave their report of their pastoral care to those in aged care. Vinnies gave a report of their practical care to hundreds of people in Sunbury which was so inspiring.
Fourteen proposals were put before the assembly. Seven proposals were requests for more assistance, generally of more workers to existing programmes: Baptismal Preparation team, Bingo workers, Communion ministers to sick and frail, Legion of Mary, RCIA Team, Small Christian Communities and the Youth Group.
Seven new proposals were tabled: assist archiving of Parish Historical material, a bus for the Evergreens, Catholic Education Foundation for parish families; improve acknowledgement plaque; a memorial garden at St Anne’s Church; structure all parish meetings and support a health project in remote PNG.
The fourteen proposals are on the walls of the Gathering space. Please take time to view them and sign up today or next Sunday to the proposals, either as a new volunteer or to go on a sub-committee to investigate one of the seven new proposals. Please sign up on the proposals.
I thank the Parish Co-Ordinating Team for planning the Assembly and Michael McConville for his facilitating the Assembly (and for the photos).
CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD
Please note that Children’s Liturgy sessions have commenced again.
Please encourage the children at the 10.30am Mass to be part of this, as the Liturgy of the Word is delivered to the children’s level, making church more enjoyable for them.
CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD
Please note, there will be no Children’s Liturgy over the school holidays.
We will resume sessions at the start of Term 3 on 15 July at 10.30am Mass.
