We are looking to set up a ‘Friendship’ program at St Anne’s School for the children who would benefit from having a special friend or mentor. Mums, dads, grandparents or relatives if you are interested, have good listening skills, the ability to relate to young people, understand the importance of confidentiality and have some free time to offer during school hours, please complete the Expression of Interest form at Welcoming Desk and return it to the school office. Enquiries: Marie D’Orazio (Student Wellbeing Coordinator) on 9744 3055.
FROM THE PRINCIPAL OF ST ANNE’S SCHOOL
Dear Friends of St Anne’s School
It is with a heavy heart that I write to inform you that after much thought and prayers to the Holy Spirit for guidance, I have decided not to seek renewal of my contract for principalship of St Anne’s School, which will expire at the end of this year.
Through staff, parents and parish collaboration, much has been achieved in the areas of Religious Education, Learning and Teaching, Student Wellbeing and Environment/School Community.
I am very proud of our achievements at St Anne’s in the knowledge that we have worked tirelessly to create and maintain a culture of faith, educational, community and social growth. We have truly upheld St Anne’s motto of ‘Growth, Wisdom and Love’.
I look forward to continuing to work with you, the staff and children over the next eight months as we strive to achieve our set goals for the year.Lucy Jackanic

OUR CENTENNIAL BUSH DANCE
The Dance has been the talk of the town-what a fabulous night with children dancing with their parents, students with their teachers and grandchildren with their grandparents. The shed at Pat Reddan’s farm had been transformed with tractors and farming equipment tidied, murals painted by the children of OLMC School and a sausage sizzle by the youth group. Between 450 and 500 people enjoyed this second event of our century year. Congratulations to the committee.
Some photos are to be seen on the earlier report
here.

PROGRESS REPORT ON WORKS AT OUR SCHOOLS
On Monday, the building workers return after their ten-day Easter break. They have taken their rostered days off (RDO’s) together so now it will be full steam ahead in the next weeks working five or six days a week, as all parties (builders and schools) want the construction to finish as soon as possible for the benefit of our children.

NEW FEDERAL FUNDED PROJECTS IN VICTORIA CATHOLIC PRIMARY SCHOOLS
The approved projects are:
- 150 libraries
- 207 classroom projects
- 259 multi-purpose areas
- 4 gymnasiums
- 7 performing arts centres
As both our parish schools already have libraries, the new projects are classrooms (11) and multi-purpose areas (2). The new classrooms have a massive amount of data cabling so that our students in 21st century will have a rich ICT environment.
Projects in Catholic schools under construction total 76% compared to the national rate of 50%.
SALESIAN COLLEGE APPLICATIONS
The College has received more applications than available places for Year 7 2011. Parents will be informed later next month on the result of their applications. The criteria for enrolment are similar in all Catholic Colleges, namely students from Catholic primary schools are given first priority.
150 YEARS OF CATHOLIC SCHOOLING IN OUR PARISH
On 26 March 1860, thirty-two students had their first day of school in Our Lady of Mount Carmel School which was a single classroom built of bluestone and timber. Within two years, the enrolment doubled to 64. In 1974, the School Board of O.L.M.C. advised Fr. Jim Feehan to build a second school in Sunbury and to name it St Anne’s which opened in 1976.
Today is a great milestone in the life of the People of God in this area of Bulla, Clarkefield, Diggers Rest, Sunbury and Wildwood. We rejoice in the commitment of parents, teachers and priests to provide a Catholic school for 150 years, during which time the parents fully funded the school from 1872 to 1973 as there was no government funding for a century. Currently, there is a total of 785 students in our parish schools, plus 1,072 in Salesian Secondary College.
OUR PARISH SCHOOLS’ OPEN DAY
Our Parish Schools Open Day is on Tuesday 16 March—two sessions—9.30am and 2.00pm at both schools.
