The Jesse Tree comes right out of a classic Advent passage from the prophet Isaiah:  ‘A shoot will sprout from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a branch will bear fruit’ (Isaiah 11:1).  The Jesse Tree is hung with ornaments representing Old Testament people and events, and lead up to Jesus.  The traditional symbols hung on the tree are based on the genealogy of Jesus as recounted by the first chapter of the Gospel of St Matthew on one side of the symbol.  The other side is a scene relating to our parish centenary.

Parish Priest of Flemington and Kensington Parishes, is celebrating his Golden Jubilee of priestly ordination today.  God bless, Fr. Bill.

We would like to express our deepest thanks to all members of the parish community for your prayers and support during the time of John’s illness and recent death. We would also like to extend a special thank you to those who attended the Mass, sang or helped in any way in the hall that afternoon. It was a wonderful example of our faith in action. Our family has been overwhelmed with flowers, cards, visits and calls. You cannot underestimate how much this has helped us as we grieve our dearly loved husband and father John.

‘Back on Track’, the drought is over
This is a free community concert from midday until 9.00pm on Sat 11 December at the Whittlesea Showgrounds.  The concert is a family friendly, strictly drug and alcohol free event.  Everyone is welcome so come along and show your support for the bushfire affected communities.

As we enter our Centenary Year and as many parishioners arrive or change address, we will conduct a quick census at all Masses next Sunday.

Starts 7.00PM (organised by Sunbury Christian Churches and sponsored by Sunbury Community & Local Businesses).

Free sausage sizzle from 6.00pm provided by the Sunbury Kiwanis Club.  BYO seating.  Candles and drinks for sale by St John’s Ambulance.  Performances by Salesian College Band, local primary schools, combined churches chorale & band, Sunbury Girl Guides.

Father Anton was with us for World Youth Day in 2008 and returns with Father Patrick.  Father Anton is now Principal of a Boarding Secondary College for boys interested in the priesthood.  Father Patrick is in parish work.  They are staying with us for a couple of weeks.

Thanks to all the wonderful parishioners who supported Joe and myself through my long hospitalisation.  Thank you for your prayers, best wishes, gifts, cards, flowers, visits, telephone calls and most of all your valued friendship.  Special thanks to Fr Kevin.

Welcoming Strangers is the title of a talk by Cardinal Wilfred Napier of Durban, South Africa at Genazzanno College Hall, 301 Cotham Road, Kew on 22 November at 7.45pm.
Organised by the Council of Christians & Jews.
Cost $10 incl. supper.

The four Small Christian Community groups in the parish will be concluding the 2010 calendar year with a combined Mass and supper on Monday 22 November at 7.30pm in St Anne’s Church and afterwards in the Parish Centre.
All welcome.
Please bring a plate of food to share.

The Parish Coordinating Team has endorsed the establishment of a neighbourhood garden on parish land next to St Anne’s. Anyone interested in helping to make this idea become a reality is asked to contact Jo Wiegerink on 9744 5788.
