OUR 2010 HOLY WEEK PROGRAM

  • Tuesday 11.00am: Chrism Mass or Mass of the Oils.  The Archbishop invites all Catholics to join all his priests to celebrate the  blessing  and  consecration  of the Oils used in the sacraments.  Priests  renew  their  commitment at this Mass in the Cathedral.  Being the Year of the Priest, this Mass has greater significance this year.
  • Tuesday 7.30pm: Communal Penitential Service in preparation for Easter when we shall renew our baptismal commitment.  The  theme  will  be  the  forgiving father  as Jesus taught us in Luke 15.  We will leave with a new attitude to live out in our centenary year.

VALE FR . JOHN MULLALLY

Born in 1928 in Tipperary, he studied for the priesthood in the seminary in Carlow which, at the time, had about 170 students. This seminary has been closed for some years due to a lack of vocations. About 30 priests came from the Carlow seminary in the fifties to Melbourne. John arrived in Melbourne in 1952 and served in various parishes, was a lecturer at Mercy Teachers College and successively parish priest of Doncaster, East Melbourne, Maidstone and Essendon until 2009 when he retired. He also served on several diocesan committees for many years. His wise advice was often sought. He helped me twenty-four years ago with the Thanksgiving program. May this great priest receive the reward of his long labours……Fr Kevin
