Marriage Encounter is a worldwide marriage enrichment program that has been in Australia for 35 years. Enhance your marriage in these challenging times by attending a Marriage Encounter Weekend. If you can support the families preparing for First Communion by hosting or leading a small home group meeting, helping with a practice session the week before the First Communion celebration or helping with the smooth running of one of the First Communion Masses, please put your name and phone number on the clipboard near the Church door and you will be contacted shortly by our Sacrament Preparation Team.

 The 2009 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity will mark 101 years since the first Prayer Octave for Christian Unity’ began in 1908. The 8 days leading up to Pentecost— May 24 to May 31—are a great opportunity to renew and deepen Our relationship with God and with our fellow Christians. The theme this year is 

That they may become one in your hand

(Ezekiel 37:17). 

All parishioners are invited to join our sisters and brothers from other Christian Churches in celebrating the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity by attending a special ecumenical service to be held at St Andrew’s Uniting Church, corner of Brook and Barkly Streets, on Sunday 31 May commencing at 700pm. A plate of supper to share after the service would be much appreciated.

THANKSGIVING ENVELOPES: New sets of envelopes are available at both churches. It would be appreciated if as many parishioners as possible could collect their envelopes. NOTE: Families of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and St Anne’s Schools—these will be delivered as usual to your school.

On Sunday 17 May the community of Sunbury is invited to gather on the Village Green from 400pm to celebrate and thank our Emergency Services personnel and their families for the critical role they play in the safety of our community. The event is being organised by the combined churches of Sunbury and will include a service of thanksgiving for our Emergency Services personnel at 430pm in St Andrew’s Uniting Church. Following the service there will be a chance for the community to speak to the Emergency Services personnel over a sausage. This month marks the centenary of electricity being introduced to Sunbury. The Shire of Bulla proposed generating electricity, but there was much community opposition, mainly due to the cost. However, in a referendum of ratepayers, the majority approved the project and residents were able from May 1909 to have electricity.
