Parents and guardians of Year 1 and 2 children

Parents and guardians of Year 1/2 children are also invited to a presentation by Fr Andrew Hayes, Parish Priest of Casterton in Western Victoria, in our ‘Parenting in Faith’ series on WED 13 May at 200pm and repeated at 730pm in the Parish Centre. He will reflect on some of the issues of living our faith in our families and our society, and of passing our faith on to our children in a way that is simple and life- giving. Fr Andrew was here last year and those who attended found the sessions enjoyable, friendly and helpful, and presented in a most lively and refreshing way. The topics are different this year so you will certainly hear something new.

Year 1 and 2 Family Mass

All families with children in Year 1 or 2 at any of the schools in our parish area, are warmly invited to celebrate the many gifts which God has given you and which you and your family bring to our parish community at 10.30am Mass at St Anne’s Church next Sunday 17 May. The Year 1/2 children will receive a special blessing and a small gift.

Last Tuesday, all students and staff celebrated Mass on the Feast Day of Mary, Help of Christians, Patroness of Australia and Patroness of the Salesian congregation. The Eucharist was celebrated similarly to our parish Christmas Mass. Afterwards the 1,060 students went out doing a day of Christian service at aged-care facilities, at schools, on environment care etc. Congratulations on such a logistical enterprise Fr Kevin

Emergency Services Thank You

On Sunday 17 May the community of Sunbury is invited to gather on the Village Green from 400pm to celebrate and thank our Emergency Services personnel and their families for the critical role they play in the safety of our community. The event is being organised by the combined churches of Sunbury and will include a service of thanksgiving for our Emergency Services personnel at 430pm in St Andrew’s Uniting Church. Following the service there will be a chance for the community to speak to the Emergency Services personnel over a sausage. 100 Years of Electricity

This month marks the centenary of electricity being introduced to Sunbury. The Shire of Bulla proposed generating electricity, but there was much community opposition, mainly due to the cost. However, in a referendum of ratepayers, the majority approved the project and residents were able from May 1909 to have electricity.

St Paul’s Letters

St Pauls Letters in perspective.

Fr Bert gave a talk at our recent Knights of the Southern Cross meeting taking St Paul as his theme as it’s the year of St Paul. He gave us a “timeline” through the life of St Paul using the letters of St Paul himself rather than the more spectacular accounts written by St Luke. Having established what St Paul was doing, where he was doing it, and why he was doing it, Fr Bert then tied the letters of St Paul to the different circumstances and events at that time when the letters were written.
I’m quite certain that the understanding of the letters of St Paul was enhanced for all who were present.

PROGRESS REPORT ON WORKS AT OUR CHURCHES

We are still awaiting steel surrounds at the adult font so that the marble grates can be fitted and the carpet properly laid. The plasma screens are now operational and were used successfully by St. Anne’s School at a prayer service last Friday for the feast of St Joseph the Worker. The audio has been re-tuned. Lighting is also being examined.
At O.L.M.C. Church, slight alterations to the design of the ramp, making it simpler, were approved last week.
