INTRODUCING KATHRYN HOLEWA– PARISH PASTORAL ASSOCIATE….She’s not in the photo!

Hello dear parishioner’s of Our Lady of Mt Carmel! I am delighted to be part of the parish team this year. The pastoral role I am undertaking for the team, is with a focus on the Sacramental programs for the beautiful children of our community. It is a privilege to be here and to serve in this way. I am here to join forces with the good school leaders and teachers, to enrich the lives of these children with matters of the heart, namely their faith life.
Having travelled to India, America and South America I am always fascinated by the hope and spiritual resilience of our young people. This is the hope we foster here in Sunbury, and I am delighted to join you in this mission. As community members, we share the same goal to live as fully as we can as Christians in a tumultuous world. Please join me in praying  for all members of our parish family, including the young people in all of our schools. I look forward to meeting many of you individually, and sharing with you in ways we can enrich this vibrant parish.
All best wishes, Kathryn J

Our Lady of Mount Carmel Primary School Mini Vinnies Update

OLMC GardenersSome of our members are involved with the Sunbury Community Kitchen and we saw the opportunity to get Mini Vinnies involved by contributing towards Monday night meals, by having a vegetable patch in our school.
With the generous donation of $500 from the Rotary Club of Sunbury, we have been able to make our idea a reality. Mini Vinnies Conference members enthusiastically weeded and turned the soil over to make a healthy environment for our vegetables to grow in. We purchased the seedlings, vitamins, soil and mulch and regularly watered our garden. We have now harvested spring onions and different types of lettuce and they were used at the kitchen. The excess vegetables will be sold and the money raised will be used towards next years crops.

Another project we have been very proud to be involved in, is Operation Christmas Child, which is run by Samaritan’s
Purse. It gives children who live in poverty a chance to receive a Christmas Present for possibly the first time.

We organized the delivery boxes and asked each grade in our school to fill the shoe boxes with small toys or stationary. We had two boxes for each grade – one for boys and one for girls. Each grade could also choose what age group they wanted to give their donations to –  2 – 4 year olds, 5 – 9 year olds or 10-14 year olds. Our school students were excited to be able to donate to this cause. Once they were filled, a volunteer from Samaritan’s Purse collected the boxes and the Rotary Club donation paid for the postage, to get the boxes to Cambodia. The boxes are on a freighter right now and are due to arrive in Cambodia on December 12th.

OUR PARISH AND SUNBURY OUT OF HUME

On 9 September, the Local Government Panel Report was released recommending Sunbury be removed from the City of Hume. Among the Reports’ recommendations is that a population of around 100,000 is the minimum for establishing the future viability of the new municipality (P.37). Such future growth has been previously set out in Plan Melbourne when zoning was changed in 2010. Since then there has been a strategic planning group made up of members of our Parish Education Board and the planners at the diocesan office. Members of this group work with the Metropolitan Planning Authority to plan and purchase future parish sites within our parish. Hence, we hope to be ready to accommodate our future parishioners.
