PRAYERFUL SYMPATHY

Our prayerful sympathy we offer to Rev Gavin Ward, Vicar of St Mary’s Anglican Church as his wife, Vicki aged 51 years entered eternal life last Saturday. Their children Graeme and Emily spoke so well at theri mother’s funeral last Thursday when over 300 people were seated outside the packed St Mary’s Church on the the Village Green.
The service was led by the two Sunbury assistant priests, Rev Cath Fisher and Rev Kim Beales.

We offer our prayerful sympathy to Solly Hipolito as her husband Sergio, known as “Jerry” entered eternal life last Saturday. Jerry was the father of Termael, Jeremy, Mia, Zerrah and Jerrhyd. Jerry has been a contributor and parishioner for 30 years and generally took part in the Eucharist three times per week. His funeral Mass was celebrated yesterday.

SUNBURY INTER-CHURCH COUNCIL

SUNBURY INTER-CHURCH COUNCIL

It has been proposed to form such a council as in some parts of Australia. A planning meeting from interested persons from the Lay Ecumenical Committee and the Sunbury Ministers Association is on Wednesday 10 April at 7.30pm to 8.45pm in our Parish Centre. Other persons interested in promoting ecumenism are welcome.

EASTER OFFERINGS

Thank you for your offering which Supports 92 retired Melbourne priests, Melbourne Bishops, priests in parishes unable to support their priest, Fr Bert and finally our own Fr Kevin, providing him with a leased car and a living allowance.

EASTER MASS FOR THE INFIRM AND SICK

This will be celebrated on Friday 5 April at 10am with the Sacrament of the Anointing of Sick. Last Tuesday in the Cathedral  the Archbishop accompanied by 257 Melbourne priests blessed the Oil of the Sick which we use in our Anointing.
Morning Tea will follow.

THE CAGLIERO PROJECT

The Cagliero Project is seeking people who are interested in volunteering overseas in a Salesian school, youth centre or orphanage. Cagliero volunteers are deployed for 6-12 months in the Asia/Pacific region.

SPECIAL COLLECTION NEXT WEEK GOOD FRIDAY– HOLY PLACES

The annual collection for the support of the church in the Holy Land takes place on Good Friday. This collection promotes the missionary work of the Church in the Holy Land by providing welfare assistance to local Christians in areas such as health, education, employment and housing. Parishes, schools, orphanages and medical centres also rely on assistance from this collection.

Please do not feed the donkey; many do and he is now over-weight.

ST PATICK’S DAY DANCE

Newsletter 13.01.20_page1_image4Last Saturday about 150 people gathered for a great night of dancing and laughing. The band rocked! And most everyone who attended had really nice comments to make. Thank you to Cathie and Robert Lio for their hard work getting the night organized. Also to Graeme Edments, Gary and Lyn Plummer, Paul & Carol Zarb for setting up and packing away. The sense of community was great and we are hoping  to do more of these events in the future and develop community feeling.

DR SISTER MARY GLOWREY

(1887-1957) the first nun-doctor missionary:  Mary grew up in the Mallee and graduated in medicine in Melbourne in 1910. After working at St Vincent’s and the Eye and Ear Hospitals, she went to India in 1920 and spent the rest of her life there, founding one of the largest non-government health care providers in the world. The process for her Beatification will commence in Melbourne next Tuesday.

OUR PRAYERFUL SYMPATHY

We offer to the extended family of Joan Crameri who entered eternal life last Wednesday aged 92 years. After six years war service in WRAAF, Joan became a TPI in later life. After being an active parishioner in Kew, Joan moved to Sunbury in 2000 to live with her cousin, Frank Hogan. Later, Joan was cared for in the Lions Hostel. Her funeral Mass is on Tuesday at 11.00am.

We also offer to Bill O’Mahoney and his daughter, Lyn Mandouit, as their son and brother, Frank O’Mahoney, entered eternal life on Thursday after a long illness. Frank has been living with his father in Sunbury for five years. His Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday 20 March at 1pm, followed by burial at Sunbury.

Saturday 16 March 2013 from 6pm………..keep this date free to come and rock your socks off! The “Ripchords” will be playing music from the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s with a good sprinkling of Irish thrown in. Gather a table of 10 or come on your own and make new friends and get into the Spirit of St Patrick’s Day.  Bring along food to share with those on your table.
Tickets are $20 per head. Book early to avoid disappointment. Inquiries and payments to the Parish Office.

OUR PRAYERFUL SYMPATHY

We offer our prayers and our sympathy to Catherine McColgan as her husband of 54 years, Alec, entered eternal life last week after a long illness. Alec and Catherine married in Scotland and emigrated to Australia in 1961. Here, they were blessed with seven children: Stephen, Anne, James, Margaret, Louise, Pauline and Mark. They came to our parish in 1992 and were practising and contributing parishioners. We thank the Ministers of Communion for the ministry to Alec while he was in Goonawarra Aged Care. His Funeral was held here last week.

We also extend our prayers and sympathy to Kerry Champness, her husband Denis and their children as Kerry’s mother, Eileen Champness, entered eternal life last Tuesday. Eileen and her husband John were our Sunbury parishioners with their two children Damon and Kerry from 1973 to 1989. Eileen suffered a long illness and entered eternal life peacefully at home with her husband John beside her last Tuesday. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated here on Wednesday at 11am followed by burial at Keilor cemetery.

Our accountant has examined our expenses and income for 2012. Our offerings have meant we were able to continue repaying our loans $2789 per week, pay our insurance $541 per week, our Archdiocesan levy $439 per week, candles, bread and wine for Mass $103 per week. Our debt on 1 January 2013 was $333,269. A fuller statement of accounts will be printed on your next statement for Thanksgiving Offering.

CATHOLIC HEALTH AUSTRALIA– CHA

CHA represents the largest single grouping of non-government health and aged care in Australia. On Friday CGA gave politicians a blueprint of six priotities for health reform including improving health outcomes for the disadvantaged, increased focus on preventative health, better consumer engagement and governance.

EASTER MASSES

Easter Masses will be celebrated at 8pm on Saturday 30 March. On Sunday 31 March at 8.30am and 10.30am. The Liturgy Planning Team decided last Thursday that due to the low numbers last year, the 5.30pm Mass will not be celebrated this Easter Sunday.
