O.L.M.C.. SCHOOL—PROGRESS REPORT ON WORKS
Progress has been very steady as work continues six days a week. Carpet will be laid in the new classrooms this week.
JOHN ARTHURSON
As John enters eternal life, he continues to gather people together. Hundreds attended his Vigil Prayers, Funeral Mass and Committal at the cemetery last Friday. Amidst the sadness of his departure at a relatively young age, Catholics gathered to pray and to remember. He was Principal of Catholic Regional College, Keilor North and Sacred Heart College, Kyneton. Both Colleges worked together providing refreshments, printing, choir and a portable address system. Our parishioners worked for hours in the kitchen to cater for the five hundred in the Parish Centre after the burial.
43 of John’s 45 first cousins attended the Mass concelebrated by nine priests. Later comments heard were ‘I was proud to be a Catholic today’ – ‘everything went so well’

NEW PARISH COORDINATING TEAM (P.C.T.)
Nineteen of us gathered last Wednesday for our first meeting. We began by studying our new three-year target to develop relationships of friendship and faith in our parish, and to use our gifts for the good of all.
We then read Pope John Paul Il’s teaching on the spirituality of communion which is to underpin all our pastoral efforts. The Pope’s words in 2000 are very inspiring.
We studied the roles of the P.C.T. and neighbourhood teams and the representation of the neighbourhoods on the P.C.T.
The following neighbourhoods have representation on the P.C.T:
- Ashfield (Gaby Plummer)
- Boardman (Marlene Bramwell)
- Langama (Joanne Spiteri)
- Gum Tree Hills (Julie Reddan)
- Jacksons Hill (Irene Campbell)
- Killara (Annette Byrne-Phillips)
- Kismet (Michael McConville)
- Paynes (Aileen & Terry Sweeney)
- Rolling Meadows/Goonawarra (Melissa Diblasi)
- Sherwood (Tom Allen)
- Strathearn (Amanda Ferraro)
- Studley Park (Mary Macdermid & Jo Wiegerink)
- Sunbury West—Tony Kiley.
We looked at beginning some of the proposals agreed on at the Parish Assembly on 16 October. We finally set the six dates for gathering in 2011.
Much energy was in the room and we finished at 9.00pm.

During this term the children will be focusing on the 150th anniversary of our school and how school and lifestyles have changed. There are some parents and grandparents in the parish who are past pupils or teachers so I was wondering if any of you could share some old photos, memorabilia, be a guest speaker, be interviewed, or write some memories of what school was like when you were here, to share with the children. Please let me know if you can help. You can contact me at wallace@olmcsunbury.catholic.edu au or 9740 7344 at school.

REPORT OF PARISH ASSEMBLY
All parishioners were invited to the Assembly and forty were able to be present in the Parish Centre on 16 October. Our facilitator was Jill Gibbs who has accompanied us on our renewal as parish since 2006.
During our ongoing journey in renewal, we have based our efforts on our essential equality in dignity as children of God living our faith, hope and charity with God, with others and creation.
After praying in the words of St Paul, we read the reports on posters around the room—reports from the neighbourhoods, parish groups and parish schools. A verbal summary was given and discussed together.
We then discussed the reports speaking and listening with respect for all. There was a very pleasant atmosphere of honesty, wisdom and creative suggestions.
The Assembly decided to move on in our journey of faith from focusing on the value and dignity of each parishioner to more emphasis on sharing our gifts of the good of our community.
Among the proposals accepted were more social events as experienced in our Centenary Year, a neighbourhood garden project, a grey army handyman service, morning tea after Mass, posties to deliver cards at the time of Baptism, First Communion Confirmation and bereavement; more information of parish events on the letter to all homes, a Lenten home groups program.
From the neighbourhoods, there have been elected representatives to join the Parish Coordinating Team (P.C.T.) which will take up the proposals passed by the Assembly and help bring about their implementation over the next twelve months. Next year’s assembly is on 3 September.
We are very grateful to Jill Gibbs for her presence and assistance before and after the Assembly, especially as she has lung cancer and travelled from near Newcastle by train and plane.
